Symptoms of childbirth
At the latest in the last week before the expected date of delivery, regular measurement and recording of body temperature in the rectum of the bite should be started (2-3 times a day at about the same hour). Approximately 80% of the souls occur approximately 24-36 hours before the onset of labor to a body temperature drop of about 1 ° C, ie from a normal temperature of 38.0 ° C to 39.0 ° C to 37.0 ° C – 38.0 C.

Higher postpartum temperatures (40 ° C or above), apathetic behavior, lack or lack of appetizers are not normal and it is important to seek veterinary help. Another symptom of nearer childbirth is a decrease in the abdomen with a stretched abdominal wall and the production of milk in the milk gland of the bitch.
Massage the milk gland can print drops and sometimes larger quantities of milk. In some cases, however, there is so-called milk start / production until delivery.
The vulva of the bitch is severely impaired. It also changes the behavior of the bitch – it is restless, it carries various objects (blankets, carpets, ..) and tries to make a place for delivery. However, these symptoms are not absolute unambiguous as they occur even in false pregnancy (Pseudogravidity). Looking at the abdomen bitch, we may have to observe the movement of fruits for 8 days before the date of birth. Usually in the last hours before childbirth rejects the whore food intake. We observe the discharge of viscous vitreous mucus from the vulva-releasing mucus stopper. Any other spills (green, purulent, bloody, smelly, …) during pregnancy and during the expected period of birth are not normal and it is advisable to consult them with your veterinarian.
During pregnancy, care must be taken to balance the nutrition of the bitch, the correct ratio of proteins and fats in the feed to the intake of vitamins and minerals. As a place of delivery, female should be prepared birthplace (with plenty of room for mother and puppy). The walls of the crate should be high enough to prevent the puppies from recovering. The place of delivery and rearing should be in a quiet place, without draft, dry and well ventilated with normal room temperature.
Above the puppy crate, it is advisable to place a lamp with an infrared lamp that will provide a temperature of about 32 ° C. Newborn puppies do not have the ability to thermoregulate. They need to be protected from undercooling (cold floor, draft, humidity) but also overheating. It is advisable to take the birthday cushion with a rubber pad and towels so that the floor does not dry during delivery and, after completing the delivery, replace the bed with a dry cloth. 8 – 10 days before the expected delivery, it is advisable to get used to the place of birth. Some females are instinctively building the place (nest) themselves before giving birth. Such an instinctive behaviour of female is not recommended to interfere with the natural course of birth.
In particular, the breeder’s clean hands should be given during any intervention or assistance during birth! It is advisable to cleanse the surrounding vulva, the back of the knot’s thighs – in long-haired breeds cut off excessive hair. We will prevent peeling or clogging the hair and provide better hygiene. It is also advisable to clean the dairy gland to cut or shave the legs around the long-haired, and thus provide easier access for the puppies. Birth should, wherever possible, take place in a place that is familiar to the child. Sudden changes in life habits in this period make the animal unnecessarily worrying. In case of any doubt, it is advisable to consult an experienced farmer or your veterinarian.
Course of birth
Birth occurs in 3 phases – opening stage, exudation stage and postnatal stage.
The opening stage takes an average of 6 to 12 hours, but for some even more than 24 hours. Initial contractions of the uterus will not notice much more (we can not see the abdominal muscles). We only notice that the bitch is running around the room / cotercite, looks over the body, urinates and defecates more often in smaller quantities. A straw-colored, viscous discharge may also appear.
At this stage, the uterine cervix is expanded to facilitate the later transition of fetuses into the uterine pathways.
The stage of exudation begins with the entry of the first fetus into the lining of the womb, causing pressure irritation of the environment and thus causing waves of regular (sometimes with breaks) stronger contractions that gradually move the fetus through the uterine cervix into the vagina. Most soups are lying comfortably during this stage, rotating towards the vase and cleansing. First of all, we can see mostly the fetal wrap (alantois), which is the outer wrap of the fetus.
As in the amniotic fluid in it “floats” a chick coated with a second (thin, translucent) fruit wrap (Amnión). Approximately 1 to 3 hours after the onset of the contraction, the fetal wrapping cracks. This happens either shortly before the puppy appears at the exit of the vase, or as soon as the puppy is in the vase.
The relaxed amorphous water moisturises the birth paths, making it easier to move the puppy wrapped in the second fetal wrap. Puppies are often born in a closed amniotic casing, which is associated with a green bed with a short kernel cord. The beds are discharged either with the fetus or shortly afterwards. The first puppy’s printing usually lasts longer than the expulsion of other fetuses.
The interval between puppies can be several minutes, but several hours. The total duration of normal labor is 6 to 12 hours on average. In soups that have been born more often, it is considerably shorter. If the delivery time between two puppies is longer than 3 hours or if the delivery is not complete even after 12 hours, it is advisable to seek specialist veterinary help. Suckling puppies are usually released from the fetal envelope by intense licking themselves, bite the cord and break the fetal wrappings. Fruit packs contain many nutrients (proteins, hormones). Female uses them instinctively. However, losing a larger number of beds can lead to subsequent vomiting or diarrhea. It is for a breeder or bitch to allow the fire, does not allow or opt for a compromise and allows him to take only part of it. At the moment of the puppy’s expulsion through the vagina, his supply is also interrupted by the oxygenated mother’s blood through the umbilical cord and the puppy is spontaneous 1. breathing alone into the lungs.
Normally puppies are actively moving. The suckling tongue instinctively cleans and massage it, which encourages them to the first touch. In case the puppy is not interested in the puppy, we need puppy to tear the fetuses and clean the head (nose, pulp). We take care not to breathe amniotic fluid. We cut the puppy cord about 4 cm above the puppy’s puppy and roughly halfway through it with a coarse thread to prevent it from cutting and to prevent the puppy from bleeding. If a puppy does not show his own activity (opening the jelly, spit, movement), check that there are no leftovers or fruit water in the noses and the jar (pudding over the puppy). Šteňa osušíme handričkou alebo papierovými utierkami. At the same time, we intensively massage him. Backbone massage stimulates blood circulation.
In such cases, it is possible to try to revive the puppy. The technique of resuscitation / removal of amphibian water is advisable to consult or consult with an experienced breeder or veterinarian.
Gradually trying to get to the mother’s teat, or we can help him with the attachment. Puppy (first breast milk) should be eaten as soon as possible after birth. The colostrum contains substances that are very important to its life. Their content and usability drops sharply from 24 to 48 hours after birth. The baby’s breastfeeding also stimulates the secretion of hormones in the mother’s body, which are important for triggering contractions for the birth of other puppies, as well as triggering the production of a sufficient amount of breast milk. During the entire delivery, the baby must be observed, approach to it calmly and sensitively. Each bitch responds differently in a stressful situation. Mother’s urge is bumping her to protect her puppies, so there’s nothing extraordinary that some bums help the owner, the presence of a stranger or the manipulation of her puppies are radically rejecting. Population period occurs after the last puppy has been vaccinated.
But how do we know if this puppy was really the last?
Most soups are significantly relaxed and nausea contractions are losing intensity, we observe only slight bumps of the abdominal wall. The bitch begins to turn his attention towards the puppies. This, however, does not guarantee that the retained beds or dead fruit (dead, excessively large fetus, mummified fetus, etc.) have not survived.
If the bitch is still unconcerned (he can not find a place, a resting position), his body temperature rises sharply, it may be a signal to us that something is wrong and it is advisable to seek professional veterinary help as soon as possible.
